The J.L. Théry and Hindrick establishments were founded by Mr. Théry, an industrial designer, and his father-in-law, Mr. Hindrick, in 1947 in Lambersart, in the suburbs of Lille. The company's activity began with the design of lighting equipment for agricultural barns and farmyards, then with street lighting lanterns and tubular masts. The activity will diversify with the design of electric motors for dishwashers and washing machines.
The road signaling activity began in the 1960s with the development of the first version of the Normale-Aluminium (N.A) traffic lights, designed by Mr. Théry. The famous Théry Hindrick pedestrian figurines were also designed by Mr. Théry towards the end of the 1960s. Mr. Hindrick died in 1966.
During the 1970s, N.A. traffic lights were modernized, and traffic lights from the Ville Nouvelle range appeared on the market for equipping new towns, then in full expansion in France. At that time, Thery Hindrick also marketed traffic lights from the Austrian manufacturer Futurit (Polycarbonate-Polyester, LUX 2000).
About thirty traffic lights are produced every day in the Lambersart factory, in addition to the public lighting activity that Thery Hindrick has retained and developed. Many cities are equipped by Thery Hindrick : Lille, Paris, Grenoble, Metz, Strasbourg, Nice, Toulouse, Charleville-Mézières...
On the other hand, Thery Hindrick signals are totally absent from the Lyon region for a good reason : copies of the NA traffic light were made in the 1970s by the urban community of Lyon, which led to a lawsuit for infringement won by Thery Hindrick.
Théry Hindrick also produces many special projects : Lille tramway signals, two-tone garage door signals, signals for locks, hourglass pedestrian signals for Toulouse, etc.
