The name of this range comes from the New Town of Villeneuve d'Ascq where it was widely established in its early days. These signals were especially visible in the North of France, but they were still found in Ile de France as well as in Paris (Place des Fêtes sector).

They are now increasingly rare, replaced by more modern equipment. At the customer's request, the V.N. lights could be fitted with visors (from 1977), or covered with a metallic paint.

Street light lanterns of the same shape were marketed by Thery Hindrick under the same name.
