The Swarco company was founded in 1969 in Austria by Mr. Swarovski. It was initially a manufacturer of glass beads which turned from 1973 to the road sector. In 1986, Swarco acquired Futurit, the world's leading manufacturer of traffic light signals.
Swarco Futurit has been present in France for a very long time through resellers, in particular Théry Hindrick (Lux 2000 signals), then through EL-SI which was the exclusive distributor of Mondial traffiic lights in France, the flagship model of the Austrian manufacturer.
Since the 2020s, it seems that Swarco has wanted to penetrate the French market in its own name, by directly approaching cities. Signals are offered to municipal services and installers, and some are installed in France. At the end of 2021, the Paris city hall, via its service provider Cielis, awarded the public contract for the capital's new traffic management system to Swarco.
