The company of general applications of electricity and mechanics (SAGEM), was established in 1925. Its activity concentrated initially on tools and military instruments. During period 1940-1970, it diversivy its activities in the armament and the telecommunications.
In 1996, Sagem acquires the manufacturer of cables and traffic signals SILEC. It is the beginning of this activity for Sagem who benefits then of the renown acquired by Silec in these two domains since the 1950s.
In 1999, Sagem acquires the company conceiving equipments of optics and electronics (SFIM), in particular materials of traffic control.
In 2005, the group SNECMA merges with Sagem. The new merged entity is named Safran. The activity traffic control is integrated into the entity Sagem Communication.
In 2010, having changed status in 2008, Sagem Communication becomes Sagemcom and is not any more detained by Safran than at the level of 8,3 %. The group redefines then on its activities of telecommunications and gives up its activity urban systems (traffic signal and traffic control) to Aximum Electronics Products (Colas group).
