The Thomson Houston French Company (CFTH), founded in 1893, was a subsidiary of the American group General Electric, resulting from the merger between American Electric Company and interests of Edwin Houston.
The CFTH had a signals and interlockings department that designed traffic lights for railroad crossings in the 1930s. These same signal have also been installed near lift bridges.
In 1928, a joint subsidiary was opened with the Société Alsacienne de Construction Métallique : Alsthom. As this subsidiary designs automated devices for railroad crossings, it is possible that the Thomson signals were marketed with Alsthom equipment, which would explain the presence of the initials "TA" on the back of these signals.
Today, there are still several examples of these Thomson signals near SNCF railraod crossings or lift bridges.
