In terms of regulation, the city of Metz is equipped with a centralized system set up from the 1980s. In 1992, this central traffic regulation station (PCRT) was equipped with the GERTRUDE system. It was completely renovated in 2013, during the commissioning of the METTIS high-level service bus network (BHNS), which has priority at 92 intersections (with 392 detection loops), out of the 212 intersections of the agglomeration of Metz connected to the PCRT.

EVR central traffic lights - 1950s
This central crossroads in the city of Metz was the first to be equipped with traffic light signals in the 1950s. It was a mast with a light base placed in the center of the crossroads with 4 EVR traffic lights. Smaller City of Paris type repeater signals were placed further downstream from the intersection as pedestrian signals. This configuration was kept until the 1970s, when this intersection was refitted in a more classic configuration, but still with EVR Classic Aluminum traffic lights.
In the 1990s, the intersection of rue Serpenoise was entirely equipped with street furniture manufacturer JCDecaux traffic lights, before being refitted with Siemens traffic lights when the street was made pedestrian. Today, there is no more traffic light signaling at this crossroads in downtown Metz, which is now reserved for public transport.

From the 1950s, the city of Metz was entirely equipped with EVR Classic Aluminum traffic lights, and this until the 1990s. The manufacturer of street furniture JCDecaux installed a few examples of its traffic lights there, in association with its bus shelters and roadsigns in the late 1980s.
During the 1990s, traffic light models diversified in Metz with Théry Hindrick, Siemens, Sagem and SEA signals.
The METTIS high-level service bus network (BHNS), commissioned in 2013, is fully equipped with Nixea traffic lights from the manufacturer SEA Signalisation.
