Securifeu signal - Besançon, 1998
Besançon - Sécurifeu experiment (1998)
Sécurifeu is an experiment involving a red clearance time countdown signal that took place at an intersection in Besançon and Colmar in 1998. The signal consisted of a two-digit LED digital display and counted down the time between the red pedestrian signal and the green car signal. The hardware used was designed by Dialog Electronic System for the time counter display and installed in a SEA Horizon box.

The purpose of this experiment was to assure pedestrians engaged in the pedestrian crossing and who see the light turn red that they had time to finish their crossing before the vehicles enter the crossroads. The results of this experiment showed that the system was generally understood by pedestrians at 80%, but that some, who presented themselves at the pedestrian crossing when the countdown was already running out, understood that the pedestrian light was going to turn green at the end of the day. ' from the count, when it was only the clearance red. For this reason, the experimentation was not favorable and this system was abandoned.
