The Durenne establishments were founded in 1831 by Antoine Durenne.
Initially a manufacturer of everyday objects, the company quickly focused its activity on cast iron for art and decoration (balconies, balustrades, statues, etc.).
In 1896, the year of the death of its founder, the A.Durenne company designed pipework and lampposts for public lighting.
In the 1930s, the Durenne establishments developed their street furniture offer, even though this concept had not yet been invented, by designing road signs (non-luminous and luminous), luminous bollards, as well as traffic lights used in Paris, Lyon or Lille.
Today, only one copy of the Durenne traffic light is still present in Paris, and a second copy is on display at the MEGE museum.
