Réplique de la tour sur la Potsdamer Platz aujourd'hui
• The tower of Potsdamer Platz
While trials of traffic control devices were taking place in Paris, the first three-color traffic lights were attributed to the city of Berlin in 1926. A tower derived from the New York model developed by Joseph H. Freedlander, is installed around 1925 in the center of Potsdamer Platz which was at that time one of the most congested intersections of the German capital, where vehicles, trams, metros and pedestrians met.
A replica of this tower is still visible in Berlin on this same square.
• GDR pedestrian figurines
When Germany was cut in two, the eastern part (GDR), distinguished itself by installing pedestrian figurines drawn by the psychologist Karl Peglau in 1961. These silhouettes representing pedestrians with a hat were intended to be better understood of the entire population (children, adults, old people, mentally handicapped). They are still found in large numbers in the former GDR, but also in West Germany.
